Is there a QUICK way to see the layer a shape is assigned to?

I would like to be able to click on shapes throughout the drawing and as I do so be able to see what layer they are assigned to.  In the same way for example that I can selects a shapes data (data>shape data), leave the shape data window open and click between shapes to see the data associated with them.  I'm asking if there is an out-of-the box way to do it.

Thanks

Drawing Explorer displays quicker the associated layers.
