Trouble with Visio 2003 add-on in 2007

I am trying to run a custom add-on that was designed for visio 2003 in 2007 professional
some of the functions work but when i try to use the bill of materials generator which
links to a access database i get errors
"There was an internal error in "CreateDSN", the file is not a valid compound file"
anyone please help i'm desperate

Just a shot in the dark, my VBA ran into troubles because it was using the office 2007 access reference, when someone with office 2003 ran it, the reference wasn't available, that caused all types of weird errors.

I'm guessing the other way around might also give problems, could something like this be the case?

how would i fix/check this? i'm a real nubie when it comes to visio

That depends on the add-on, is it a separate program or is it embeded VBA code?
Cause what I mentioned really only applies to VBA code as far as I know.
In that case you can use the VBA editor ( Alt + F11 ) and check the references using the menu Tools -> References.

If its a separate program I really don't know how to check if something like what im saying can be checked as the code is probably blocked / compiled. You could also try asking the person who made the add-in for help, he or she probably knows if the add-in looks for specific Office 2003 parts.
