Hi All,

I've been trying to create a custom text callout for data graphics in Visio 2007.  I've tried creating one from scratch by following this article:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visio/archive/2007/05/01/make-your-own-data-graphic-text-callouts.aspx

I've also tried modifying an existing one by following this article:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/wmorein/archive/2006/06/15/632742.aspx?PageIndex=2

I believe I have followed both articles exactly, but in both cases, the resulting callout does not appear in the "Callout" drop down on the "Edit Data Graphic" -> "Edit Text" dialog.  My custom callouts appear in the drawing explorer under masters, and contain the "User.msvCalloutType" and "Prop.msvCalloutField" shape sheet cells.  I figure I must be missing some step, but I've tried everything I can think of.  Has anyone successfully created a custom callout for shape data graphics?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

In case anyone in the future runs into this, I did find a work-around.  Instead of trying to copy a default callout master, rename it.  The renamed callout can then be customized and will show up in the data graphic editing dialog.  This can be done multiple times by re-adding a default data graphic to the drawing, in which case Visio will automatically re-create the default callout master(s).  Not particularly elegant, but it seems to work for me.

Ridiculously late reply but since I don't see a lot of good information on creating custom data graphic callouts, I thought I'd post and maybe save somebody else some time...

For what it's worth, I was able to create the text callout using the steps exactly as posted in the first article listed (using Visio Pro 2016) and it successfully appeared in my data graphics custom callout list. I suspect you may not have added the master to the *document* stencil but I could be wrong. The document stencil is not visible by default and can be accessed from the Shapes pane: More Shapes->Show Document Stencil.

Good luck!
