Please help - Linked visio drawings not updating in word

I'm using Office 2013.  I had a document and I had a file with multiple visio drawings.  I put the drawings into the document by "Insert>Object>Create from File" (made sure to click link) and then pasting in the link to the visio that is on Share Point.  Then I right clicked on the drawing and chose "Linked Visio Object>Links>Change Source" and in that, under item I typed "Drawing\~DrawingName" and re-inserted the link to the visio that is on SP in the "File Name" box.  Clicked open, made sure the Automatic Update radial was checked and said OK.

The correct drawing shows up but it NEVER updates.  If I delete the drawing and reinsert it, it does not update to the latest drawing on the visio that's been uploaded to SP.

I have to get this doc out to a customer, it's already overdue, and I'm fighting with this all day, every day.  I've tried inserting a macro to auto refresh on open and even running that doesn't update the visio.

HELP ME BEFORE I TEAR ALL MY HAIR OUT, PLEASE!!!

Ok, here's a new wrench in the monkey works:  If I just straight up have one drawing in the file, it updates with no problem whatsoever, but I don't want to have to go back through and break out all these drawings into their own files and then relink them all in the word doc, although I will if that's what it takes.  Does anyone have a better idea?
