Hi VisioGuys :)

I need help, i hope you can give me a hint how to solve this.

I want to export a visio Gantt Diagramm in Word.

Easy to export. No problems.
But I want to send it via E-Mail and the receiver needs to change something.

How can I solve this? I can't link the Visio diagramm.
And when I use copy and paste, he can't change something on the diagramm.

It would be awesome if you can help me.

And no, to send the Visio data with the E-Mail is not possible :).

Are there some known issues with different versions?

Kind Regards
Stanislaw

Hi Stanislaw,

you can copy/paste your diagram to word as OLE-object! And open visio object in new window

But word have limit for page size something like as A3. If your diagram very big you need
shrink OLE-object in word document, that makes text very little

Hi Surrogate.

Thank you. I will test your workaround.

Usually everything is working fine until I send the Word Dokument to someone.

He can't change something in it. I will test, if you solve the problem.

Kind regards
Stanislaw

Thanks again for your answer. But still the same error message, when someone using the Word datei and want to change something in Visio

He doesn't find the Data for the (Gantt)-Diagramm.

Any further ideas?

Surrogate

why you don't try just Save&Send your diagram ?
your recipient have installed visio application ?

stanislaw_petrow

Hi Surrogate.

Thank you for your answer.

My recipient has got Visio installed.

I need to have the visio in word. That is working fine.

But then i need to send the word via E-Mail. And the repicent should have the possibility (like me, when i open the word) to open the Visio in Word and change something.

Surrogate

which versions of word and visio have you and your recipient: same or different ?

stanislaw_petrow

I tried several possibilities.

I got Visio 2013. Saved it as regular file and as a file with 2003-2010 compatibility mode.

My colleagues: One has 2010, one has  2013 word.

In all 4 cases we can't work with it, when I or they open it on another computer
:(

vojo

one used to be able to do this with visio 2003 and word 2003....cant do that any more
Word 2010 gets real shaky if you copy/paste even a JPG into a file (need to explicity use insert ==> picture)

I guess the guys in redmond got creative again

stanislaw_petrow

That's really bad, still thank you for your answers.

So.... I just can't do this. Or some1 other got an idea for a workaround?

Could it be that the data are stored in separate file?

What I tried to achieve with my tactic is, that the Visio File is "connected" with the word file.
The goal is, that someone other can easily open the Word file and edit the Visio File implemented in Word.

And I can't get the last thing done. Because every time there is an error like "no connection found" or I can't edit at all.

So... to answer your question: In my opinion, the data is in separated files. But it should be in one file. Like the "Adding of an excel file".
With excel I can send the Word file with the excel file as an object and the receipts can open it easily.

Thank you for your support. I'm looking forward to your new ideas.

stanislaw_petrow

So... I don't think anyone can help me.

If no one other has an idea, the thread could be closed  :'(

Yacine

Stop whining ;)
We may go systematically for a solution.
Can you upload both a word and the original visio file?
