Variable List does not accept additional values

Hello all
Is there a way in to create a drop down list in a Visio 2010 shape dataset, and still be able to insert values which are not in the list?

When I created a shape with a "Variable List" type field, and type in values which are not part of the list, they appear on the design, but then, disappear after Save/Close/Open of the file.

Hi Rafi,

I don't fully understand what is going wrong. Can you share a document? I tried in 2013 and any extra items you add to a list persist.
