Every now and then a Visio diagram embedded in a Word DOC mysteriously converts to a picture and I can no longer edit it. Obviously this becomes a major problem when I have to revise the diagram in such a document, and my screams can sometimes be heard across the room.

Has anyone else ever experienced this annoying phenomenon? Is it possible that the Visio data somehow still exist in the DOC file?

Of course I could save backup copies of the Visio diagrams independently of the DOCs, but that's quite a nuisance and rather defeats the purpose of using embedded objects in the first place.

I'm using Visio 2003 (11) and Word 2003 (11) SP3.

Thanks for any help.

I do this quite alot (thousands of times over last decade)....never had that happen

Now and then, I do get in a situation where visio diagram too big to copy from vision into doc/ppt....have to embed an image for those.
But when this happens, I get error message for Word or PP up front (no hidden action) and have to actual abort the copy/paste and use
paste special.

Visio 2003.....office 2003

FYI....visio and Libre office / Open office dont play well together.   Visio filter for LO/OO pretty useless and COM support suspect.  So for those
always have to imbed image.
