Hey guys,
I'm trying to create an organization chart from an Excel file with column "Master_Shape" so that Visio can select the corresponding shape to each box. But I can not do it, when I import, the wizard dont use the column "Master_Shape" or "Forma_patrón" to select the shapes.

Please help me, I want to find a way that when I import the excel file, Visio select the corresponding shapes.

Sorry for my bad English.

My version of Visio is 2010 in Spanish.

Thanks :)

The way I'd try this would be to make a sample orgchart with just a manager and a position, and then export it as excel. That would give me the correct column names for what you are trying to accomplish.

I do that and get the correct names for the columns, but when a I import the file, Visio dont use the column "Forma_patrón" or "Master_Shape" to select the shapes.

The organization chart wizard dont give me the option to select the column for the shapes of each box.

If I can't do this from the organization chart wizard, is there any way to use the wizard in VBA and define the arguments of the column "Master_Shape" directly?

Thanks.

Are the shapes in the master_shape columns the same as those that are in the org chart stencil (that's where the add-on goes for the shapes)? There should be a sample excel orgchart file that can be used for testing (orgdata.xls in the Visio Content subdirectory path), does it build an orgchart correctly?

I use the file orgdata.xls and made sure that the column "Master_Shape" have the same names as the Stencil, but unfortunately not selected forms.

I'm thinking that the problem could be my version of Visio (2010 Spanish), but I cant change that.

I'm thinking that my only hope could be VBA but I dont have idea of how to do it that way.

Thank you very much.

Finally brother, found a way to solve the problem, but it was not with a link that you gave me, I hink it's much to my level. I used a command line in a shortcut using the instructions in this link: "http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/make-visio-organization-charts-from-personnel-files-HA001077464.aspx"

Using the file ORGWIZ.EXE

This was the line I wrote in the Target box of the properties of the of the shortcut:  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ORGWIZ.EXE" "/FILENAME=C:\Users\Marieliz\Documents\ParaBorrar3.xlsx/NAME-FIELD=Nombre/MANAGER-FIELD=Reports_to/SHAPE-FIELD=Forma_patrón/DISPLAY-FIELDS=Nombre, Title/LAUNCHGUI"

Thanks to the argument /SHAPE-FIELD= I could specify the column name in charge of assigning the corresponding shapes.

Now what I want to do is run this line from a VBA módule, but that's another question.

Thanks for your instructions, They help me to collect clues to the solution.

Thanks.

The answer is in front of both of us. Your command line uses hyphens for separators, over here the tool uses underscores...
