Hello I am a newbie (to visio and this forum) and I need help! (quick round of applause!)

Apologies in advance as I know this forum will be full of answers for me its just I am getting in a muddle trying to understand the terminology of what I am looking for... so I will try to explain!

I am wanting to create a graphical display of risk I have across my buildings. I have attached an excel sheet and a powerpoint slide to hopefully better describe what I am trying to achieve.

Each building is made up of different parts of risk... such as People, Plant Process.
Each Risk is scored based on 5 criteria. A, B, C, D, E
Risk Score is calculated by Max of Criteria A,B,C multiplied by Max of Criteria D,E.
The scoring in A,B,C,D,E is 1 to 5, meaining overall risk score will be between 1 and 25

I would like to display each building as a Block with People, Plant, Process shown in an org chart type format - see powerpoint.

I have worked out how to assign custom properties and can get a field to display just one value but I have not managed to work out how to use the field to assign a formula that will calculate the risk score as described above. I would further like it to be that the colours change based on the value. I know conditional formatting can do this but again, in visio, I am struggling!

Finally I am working with Visio 2003 at work but have newer versions available personally if they can be created / developed in one version and exported for another version?

ALL help is gratefully received and please let me know if there is any more information needed to better explain what I am trying to achieve.

Thank you in advance and apologies if I have posted in the wrong section etc etc!

Regards

Ed,
the  first decision would be to do it in v2007 professional (it has all of the data handling that would help). (that's what would allow the linking between excel  and the drawing). Unfortunately if you take advantage of it, the solution is not backward compatible to v2003. If the solution has to run on v2003 then you are probably into custom coding (for the datalinking part).

I'd probably do the risk calculations in excel and then datalink to the appropriate shapes.

Thank you for that.

After your remark about not being backward compatible I know I am going to have to go down the less preferable route as 2003 is as good as it will get for me at the moment!

I had a further play around once I found the Shape sheet! So I now have some more stuff to break!

I will check out the links. Thank you again for the pointers... I am sure I will be back for some other details that are simples!
