Embedded Objects within Visio Viewer Won't Open

I do all my work in Visio 2010 Pro and forward out to the rest of my team who are relagated to using the Visio Viewer.  Everytime I embed a .pdf or .doc and they try to open a strange box opens and won't let them view the embedded object.  If anyone else has come across this issue...please help.  Thank you.
