shape handles not appearing

Hi Can someone please help me. I have a computer with visio 2010 installed. If I draw (say) a  rectangle and select the shape with the pointer tool the mid-point handles appear. I have installed visio 2010 on another computer and when I do the same the mid-point handles do not appear. I am absoltely stuck as to what the problem is. I have tried to compare what differences there are on the menus but it is so vast after 3 hours or more I just don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated.

try File=> Options=> Advanced => show more shape handles
