Slow Launch

I have a large Visio file with 30 + pages and about 300 shapes on each page.  When I have data linked to the shapes, it can take something like 10 minutes to launch.  I can have data associated with each shape and have an Excel table linked to the page, and Visio still launches with 20 seconds.  As soon as I link the shapes on each page to the Excel table data on the page, the launch becomes a real grind.  Is there a way I can still realize the benefits of the shape - data links, but improve performance ? I want to try to avoid compartmentalizing the pages into separate files.  I am working with 07.  Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
