Hi,

This is another newbie type question (or a few).

I'm trying to create a site plan / lot plan.  I've used the site plan template as my starting point, and I thought it made sense to use the "Property Line" shape (in "Annotations (US units) ) to draw the outline of the lot.  I like the fact that it prints dimensions and directional data with the shape.

However I also need to calculate the area of the lot. I've tried selecting the property lines, grouping them, and then using the Shape Area add-on tool to calculate the area of the shape.  But it isn't working.  It seems to be calculating the area of the lines only.

Is there another way I should be doing this? How can I draw lot lines that can then be grouped to allow the calculation?

Thanks again for the help.

In V2007, draw your lot lines using the Property Line shape.  Make sure that the ends are glued together for each segment.  Then, take the Space shape (Walls, Doors, and Windows template), and place it within the boundary of your property.  Select everything (cntl A), right click the Space shape, and select Auto Size.  That should do it.
