Gap around shape border when connecting lines

My apologies if this has been posted before but I had no luck searching for it.

I've noticed a problem when connecting lines to certain shapes: there is often a very noticeable gap left between the line end and the border of the shape itself (see attachment). I can make the line appear completely connected by manually dragging the line end to some point behind the shape, without connecting to the shape itself. The lines seem to get cut off in an almost square border around the shape. Is this an issue with the shape itself, or is there some parameter in Visio I can tweak to fix this?

Each shape has a rectangular area associated with it, you can see this when you select the shape, it will have a series of green/grey handles around it. Normally with shape like this you connect to its central connection. It is more complex than this (dynamic glue is what you want to search for - or maybe you don't).

Thanks for the pointer! I figured out that I can set the target's ShapeFixedCode to 128 in the ShapeSheet to force lines to anchor to the center point of the target. Then I can move the shape to the foreground so the lines don't appear to cross in front of the target. It's not a terribly elegant solution but it works.

Am I missing a simpler approach?

In your picture, you have glued the lines to the alignmentbox. You can glue to geometry (=visible parts of a shape), too. You have to activete that option in the glue-options.

I tried that, but it didn't seem to have any effect, even if shape geometry was the only glue option selected.

But the shape may be an image in which case it may not have any geometry aligned to the shape's outline.
Or, if it's a grouped shape the group's shapesheet setting "IsSnapTarget" may be set to false.
