How do I modify milestone pin shape to remove the date textbox from the master?

Using Visio 2010

Developer Mode enable, but I am not really a developer.

I have a new stencil which i copied the master milestone pin shape to so that I can edit it. I was able to remove the date from the master by using <space><esc>. The shape still has an undesired behavior when attaching to a timeline. When the shape is used above the timeline description is on top of the pin and then the now removed date text is on top of the description. This is ok.

When I position the pin underneath the timeline, the date now invisible field is displayed in top of the pin and then the description above that, but this leaves some extra white space. Not what I want.

I want to remove the date field all together from the shape. Looking at the Shape Sheet this is sheet.14.

When I try to delete that element it says the shape is protected, has layers or grouped.

It wont let me ungroup, does not appear to be layered or has any protection enabled.

Any thoughts? Visio F1 help has not been that helpful.

Missing step: 
Select master shape, open it's shapesheet, under protection, set the lock group to zero.

Now your date shape should delete.

hmm tried that as well, no go. I made sure that the shape master was saved after doing this as well.


All values for shape.14 is set to 0

Never mind, figured it out. I had to set the value of lock group on the main sheet.5 before the children sheets could be modified.
