Is it a new feature?
When you make new shape with menu Operations/Union, cut, etc.,
the color and pattern of the first selected shape flows into other shapes.
Very good feature!

makes for an interesting observation... can see why it could be used.

No idea how long it's been around.

It's been around for awhile.  I know V2003 has that behavior.
