I just installed Visio Professional 2003 on a machine using Windows 7.  When I open an existing stencil I have saved it opens it in edit mode.  I have searched everywhere but cannot find out why this is happening.  Does anyone know how I can change this so it does not happen?

Thanks,

DMyers

Update:  We have tried to find a solution but can't.  We did find out that it only happens when we open a single stencil at a time.  If we open multiple stencils at one they come in like normal.

Not sure if this matters or not but I thought I would post more information on the problem.

Thanks,

DMyers

When you previously saved the stencil did you turn off edit mode? Are you saving a document at the same time?

When I previously saved the stencil we did turn off edit mode.  Most of the stencils have not been updated in a month or two (some have not been used in that long).  The problem is happening any time we open a new stencil; after/before we save, when we open a new drawing, etc.

Currently we have 3-4 people using the same stencil at a time.  This is only happening with the machine we have that is loaded with Windows 7.  All other machines are using Windows Professional 2002 Service Pack 3.  This makes me believe that Windows 7 is creating this problem but I am not sure???

Thanks.

I'm using Windows 7 here (with Visio 2010 Beta), no problem like this.

Well, I have no idea what has happened or what I may have changed but this is now happening on a computer here running Visio 2003 (Standard) and Windows XP ! Only seems to happen when stencils are opened using the Open icon on the toolbar, not when using the menu File -> Shapes or when stencils are opened under program control. Restarting Visio doesn't fix it. Hmmm.

I cannot replicate Paul's experience.   :P  Regardless of how I invoke a Custom or Visio supplied stencil, it always comes up in read mode.   :o  Platform is Visio 2003 Pro and Windows XP.   :'(
