Good day all! well, it is time for a new laptop and wondering what i should get... i need something that handles visio professional 2021 without fail! i cannot be waiting a few seconds between each action i need it to just work in real time... can you tell that my current laptop is pants :D    i am looking at an HP Spectre x360 16" with Core i7, 16GB, 1TB SSD....    what do you guys think of this or suggest otherwise?   the other two things i use really heavily are excel and word but excel often having visio, excel and word going at the same time.  these laptops are like 1600 to 1900 and i have no idea if i should go higher or lower spec. I will need to justify the cost but can do so as long as it is reasonable. cheers!

I think it depends more on the diagrams you are editing (if they are like 200Mb each, Visio is kind of expected to work slowly, but if they are just boxes and lines, then enven the online version should do); In general, if your system meets the minimal requirements, Visio should work IMHO.

I'm using a ThinkPad laptop (P14sG5, AMD 8840HS, 64GB RAM). Don't see any issues with Visio (but I don't work with it intensively either)

I am running an ASUS Vivobook, using Win11, Home, 64B
CPU: 12th Gen, i7-12650H 2.3GHz
RAM:  16 GB
Visio:  2019 Pro

I do run Excel, Word concurrently

My largest file is an 186GB User guide document that contains inserted Excel worksheets on a lot of pages, plus many inserted image of various file types.  It has 170 pages, plus 3 background pages.  I have not encountered any sluggishness.  I do not actively link to remote databases.

I would say, 15" screen is the minimum I would consider, 17" is better.  I don't run dual screens, so cannot comment upon that.  I have tried it, on rare occasions, and have not had issues when doing so.  My workspace is not conducive to dual monitors.

Sad but true. Somehow, so many real Visio users have these gargantuan files, dozens, if not hundreds of megabytes in size :-\

True.  It was a sound system documentation effort.  Lots of graphics.  Details the entire system:  all the components, their interconnection, configuration, various scenarios, troubleshooting and so on.  Has TOC with active links.

well... thinking about this one... HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop | 16 Inch 3K+ IPS Touch Screen | Intel Core i7-12700H (Intel Evo) | 16 GB DDR4 RAM | 1 TB SSD | Intel Iris Xe | Windows 11

Not ever had HP laptop, so cannot comment on that.  Touch screen is nice, but, for positioning, dragging/dropping shapes, I prefer using a mouse.  So, I'd say touch screen is optional.

Presumably, you'll use this for more than just Visio, perhaps watching videos, maybe editing pictures?  If so, you might exchange touch screen for either higher resolution (4K ??? ), or 17 inch or just overall cost or more RAM...

yea.... i thought the same about the touch screen and honestly it seems like that is a 'premium' feature that i would use maybe once or twice but that is about it so got this one instead, went ahead and ordered it:  LG gram 17 Inch Notebook - 1350 g Intel Core Ultra7 Laptop (32GB RAM, 2TB Dual SSD, 21.5h Battery Life, IPS Panel Anti-Glare Display, Win 11 Home, 2024)

Hi, yea, it's a Logitech MX Anywhere 3S. it is rechargeable and also does not require a bluetooth dongle which is really nice (edit: as long as your device has bluetooth in case for some that is not obvious :) ). You can also directly pair it with three different devices and a button on the bottom sequenced it through the 3 devices. it is small at 100x65x34mm but it is still weighty enough to know you have it in the hand. another thing i like about it is the scroll wheel is metal and weighty as well with a little nub behind it that you can press and it converts the scroll action from slightly clicky to smooth, not to mention with the app you can make more adjustments. sounds like an infomercial but i actually enjoy getting it out to work with it so a nice little bonus. for my desktop i will not get rid of my wired steelseries with all the weights in it as that is myu ultimate mouse but not practicle with the cable and on the knee sometimes on the road.
