Lately, I got criticized for posting a text generated by an AI. Apparently, it was too flawless, too perfect.

Today, I finalized a rather ambitious Visio project. It took me about two weeks to work out the idea, think about the implementation, and set up a proof of concept. Work done. Well, not really—here's where the real work begins: you need to present it, write a description—clear and complete, of course.

Hey, I came here to do serious engineering, not poetry!
It's like cooking the Christmas meal and then being told you also need to dress the table and wash the dishes!

... If only someone could invent a way to let us engineers focus on engineering while an AI handles all the 'useless' tasks—oh wait, I think we already did.

IMHO that does not work like this ;D

AI will take ALL intellectual jobs that can be done by computer over time, does not matter much if they are "engineering" or not.
Check out this chart for example (the declie of open junior positions in engineering the past 2 years):

The reason is generative AI is excellent for performing many entry-level tasks

Quote- According to Bloomberg, the risk of automation for an entry-level graphic designer is 50%, while for an art director it is only 24%.
- For a sales representative, the risk of automation is 67%, while for a sales manager it is only 21%.
- For a beginner marketer, it is 53%, and for an experienced one, it is 9%.

To me this looks like only "physical" jobs may survive. Think cook, plumber, hairdresser  :)

Physical jobs have been destroyed in much greater numbers by another invention: the steam engine
In the Middle Ages, 90% of the population worked in agriculture.

Btw. I use AI to translate my postings. Please accept my apologies ;D

I apologize if I were the critic.  I've not been a fan of AI, but never intended to make that a personal criticism.  Having now tried AI, for Forum use, I now still complain, but hypocritically.  😲

I tried AI, initially, to explore capabilities wrt Visio programming.  Not so great.  Seemed to have less knowledge, made just as many mistakes, did find occasional solution I hadn't considered, but did do it faster.

Engineering solves problems.  Engineers typically embrace AI to accelerate that process...more thorough searching, better learning/knowledge retention...which provides alternative approaches, and, above, all faster time to solution.

My recent experience with AI has witnessed maturity.  First, it is incredibly faster.  Second, its knowledge base is much greater.  Solutions encompassed regions of which I had no knowledge.  Still not stand-alone.  Here's example that embodies these observations, Arbitrary Selection of Layers. 3rd, getting it correct without errors is improving.

The dangers, excluding philosophical thoughts, include that a solution may be arrived at that includes areas, either partially or completely, of which the user has no preceding knowledge.  Thus, the ramifications, the collateral damage of a solution are unknown.  Indeed, I even existing knowledge isnt needed as AI solution can (may) be independent of the users... to remember what I do know, my fundamental thought to solution will be much slower, less efficient, and include tangential, bunny trails.  it is very hard not to embrace the AI efficiency.
