Thomas Winkel and myself had yesterday a meeting in Microsoft Teams, where we presented each other our Visio solutions. I enjoyed it very much.
The possibility of presenting one's own desktop and showing the system live is another experience than exchanging forum posts.

I wonder if you guys would be interested in participating in such meetings. I remember having proposed that a while ago, I got rahter negative response.

Cheers,
Y.

Teams is great for meetings! When's the conference? Do we need t-shirts?

But I have a problem with it when it comes to messaging.

I am always logged in to a certain work account, but I have another one related to the Microsoft MVP program. I receive e-mails that "there was a message in Teams" (from the MVP stuff), but it is too hard to switch between work and the MVP Teams, so I never look at the messages. (I'm not even sure which account to use to get into the MVP Teams)

So the problem is: managing multiple accounts is a pain (unless it's been improved recently), and anybody hoping I will see their chat messages from the "wrong" team is out of luck.

I don't know if that would affect a Visio Teams meeting, but if people were relying on sending out chat messages to schedule a meeting, it might be difficult for others to see that if they are logged in to a different Teams area.

Hi, agree that was a really interesting exchange!

Language in our case was German, but "broken English" should be possible, too ;)
Teams was the easy way because we use it in our companies, anyhow.
But I guess we can use any platform that allow video conference and screen sharing.
Messaging may be helpful to ask questions during a presentation, if many people would join such a conference.
But I would not use this for regular communication outside of the meeting.

T-shirts is a great idea! For the next conference we need a convention centre in a famous capital city  ;D

But seriously, the topic for the next meeting could be "VSTO AddIn for Visio".
We would create a demo AddIn with basic examples for the most important things to get started.

Hmmm.  Quite so, eh?
Sorry.  Not my cup of coffee.  (Think about it.)
Bowl of cereal.  (Think about it.)

Ah, the plot thickens like day-old oatmeal! (Stir that around.)
Your words are music to my ears... if my ears were tuned to a ukulele. (Pluck on that.)
I'll leave the door ajar, like a fridge at midnight. (Chew on that.)
You're the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the whole kit and caboodle. (Dress it up.)
No pressure, just like a vacuum in space. (Float with it.) Wapperbuddy. (I wapped it.)

No need to be a member in a certain Teams group. I would invite the people over their email address, like I do when meeting other companies.
If you don't want to share your real email address, it works also with disposable email addresses.
When the number of attendees is very big, I usually set up several meetings and look which one gets the most approvals or less rejections.

As for the language, I propose Interlingua. Joke aside, everybody communicates in English here. The answer is easy.

@Yacine:   ;D  Better answer than I expected.  But, each had a clue to my response...
>> Cup of coffee:  I believe the correct term is cup of tea.  But, coffee more common beverage in USA than tea.  Indication of potential language, custom, and generally, other non-culture problems.

>> Bowl of cereal:  Cheerio(s). Casual goodbye, I have nothing else to express.
>> I did think about your original topic intro before replying.

Clearly.  You had the better answer.

Sure, but I cheated.
Recently, I asked an AI to evaluate my English, and it said that while I have a rather large vocabulary, it's still recognizable as non-native.
I could spend decades trying to improve my English, but I'll never fully grasp the nuances like you and Paul do, when joking about a subject.
As a nerd, I can accumulate dozens and hundreds of words and notions, but without living in the precise context, I'll never truly understand the subtleties.

Here, I cheated and am happy to have pleased you, but at the end of the day, it doesn't feel entirely like my own effort. To be honest, you weren't playing fair either; this task was clearly beyond my capabilities. I just happened to knew who to ask (as image: I brought my big brother to the schoolyard to support me againts the bullies).

Back to the meetings, why is it not your cup of coffee? We visioneer nerds spend these thousands of hours developing solutions and have no one to speak about it. I told Thomas it as trying to speak about my latex underwear with a random person.
Our passion is so "niche", that getting an opportunity to show one's own achievement and to see other's is a great experience.

But as said the door is kept ajar.

Speaking for myself, I won't be ready to address this topic before the next winter hollidays.

If it were about another less significant topic - loose experience exchange - I would be available much sooner. Topic "Entertaining".

As for useful and more substantial topics, I would add to Thomas point:
- generic smartshape development
- generic "solutions" development
- various ways of handling data
- discussing ideas of an opensource Visio
- for the core team, discuss about Visguy's forum continuation.
- tidyind up the numerous ressources

Feel free to comment, critisize or ammend my list.

Oh, most definitely.  And, quite intentionally.

Yacine, Thomas, Teams Meeting this is a really great idea, and is greatly appreciated.

I would love to participate, absolutely.
Both German and English are kind of fine, although both are not my native languages..

Unfortunately, I had some personal things to pay attention to for the past month,
really sad I've missed out the meeting :-[

Just opened the forum.
Some sort of an announcement would be great!

Yacine

@Nikolay,
no worry, that was a personal discussion between Thomas and myself. The idea to invite others came later.
I'm myself rather busy these days, but:
- I mustn't be the organisator - anyone else can take the initiative
- I have made some subject proposals. Thomas had also a very good one, that I'm interested in.
but no one says we cannot just chitchat without concrete subject
- People who showed interest are: Visguy, Thomas, Visisthebest, Surrogate, yourself, TwoBeAss, Hiddenlayer and myself. That's a substantial bunch.

Great  :)
We could use this thread to find topics and to announce meetings.
Everyone who "likes" an announcement gets an invitation via PM.
I think each meeting should end with a point "open discussion".
But an agenda will be an ice breaker, especially if more people join.

Nikolay

Just wondering if you guys are using telegram?
It could be a group/channel for the announcements.

My spoken English is terrible!
I understand 70% of what is said (the best I understand is the speech of Eastern Europeans).
Almost no one understands what I say)
I can just listen to what is being said.
