I'd like to learn how to extend the length of the arrow without altering its edges, preserving both the angle and the original length.

Here's something that might meet your needs.  You can right-click on the shape to "configure" the arrow dimensions or if you want a single arrow or arrows in both directions, and you can click-and-drag the ends to extend the length of the without affecting the basic shape of the arrow(s).
There are no problems, only opportunities
