I have a special case for a special need to put a connection point outside the area of a group shape (outside the bounding box).

Will this cause issues when adding data graphics, or is such a connection point just ignored in terms of the position of the shape?

Don't believe there's issue with the connection point per se.  Might be issue "collaterally" ... routing of connectors, unexpected gluing.   And where is that connection point???

Connection point is far outside the shape itself (the bounding box).

"...where?..." was rhetorical.  You have to keep track of its location.  Being far removed from actual shape might make doing so problematical.

This is no problem, and I use absolute distance in inches so easy to keep track of the position.
