Title: Trade Flow Map
Post by: Coldfire46 on October 14, 2015, 02:47:16 PM
Hi All,

I'm trying to create a trade flow diagram within Visio similar to the image here:

Google Image Search: Trade Flow Maps Flood EU (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=TRADE+FLOW+MAPS+FOOD+EU&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=1075&tbm=isch&imgil=o-9rddxvcHBlhM%253A%253BAQuhseFjGSdZ_M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.eea.europa.eu%25252Fdata-and-maps%25252Ffigures%25252Fnet-trade-flows-in-soya&source=iu&pf=m&fir=o-9rddxvcHBlhM%253A%252CAQuhseFjGSdZ_M%252C_&usg=__5nCun6WTx9YSJJILInt90qWYbFs%3D&ved=0CD4QyjdqFQoTCK7ciamZwsgCFU2GGgod5P0EwQ&ei=A2oeVu7OGM2MauT7k4gM#imgrc=_)

I was relatively new to Visio so not sure if it's do-able but I think it should be. I've managed to get and EU map into Visio, so I'm wondered how to create the arrows that are weighted according to the numbers they represent. If anyone has any idea or tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance  :)

Hi Coldfire,
a graphic designer would use subjective line widths rather than exact values to make to make such a diagram.
Why trying to put more in it than necessary?

But if you are really interested in pimping up a connector, here's a nice article: http://visualsignals.typepad.co.uk/vislog/2008/03/creating-random.html

I've been working on something similar making masters for the locations, running VBA to connect the locations and then pushing line thicknesses with VBA to adjust line width. Not quite there yet.

Use some VBA, connects and from and tosheet and you'll have something in notime
