Title: Visio Internal Error #2200
Post by: Paul Herber on November 26, 2013, 12:44:36 AM
One of my customers is getting this error when opening some stencils (both US and metric versions). Some stencils are OK, some not. All open fine in Visio 2010, and, with all due respect to my customer, they seem to be fine with all my other Visio 2013 customers (for I have heard nothing contrary). Does anyone have any ideas?

I am getting the same error.  It just started happening and I have no Idea why.  The shapes I try to open are all from network equipment like Cisco.  All of my shapes from Cisco do not work they just flash up Internal Error #2200.  I am using 2013 Professional

Refer to screen shots.

Please refer to attachment for initial selection process that I use.  The next post will show the error.

Edited by Visio Guy to insert images into post instead of Word docs...

Steps:

1. I select a shape from the shape file and click on it.

2. This is what happens, I have reloaded the shapes and still do not work, I have re-installed Visio 2013 Professional but still get same.

Please note continuing screen shots of my problem.
Thanks,
Jim

Steps:

3. I go to the file in My Shapes and click on it.

4. Then a new window opens up with the shapes in it but they will not pull out onto the drawing area.

Ok, so you can actually open the stencil. Some things to try:

1. Try saving the file to the Visio 2013 format (ie: .vssx). See if the save works, then try using that stencil to drag shapes from.

2. Make a new stencil and see if you drag a master from the "bad" stencil to the new one. Try to isolate if it's the file or just one master.

Can one of you post a link to the source of the Cisco shapes (is it Visio Cafe?)

The image 4.png is showing the stencil in stencil edit mode. How exactly did you get to that point?

Per your request I was able to save the file in .vssx but still get the #2200 error when trying to open it

About the question of getting into the stencil edit mode for the shape, I go to My Shapes folder and click on the Cisco shapes
Then I edit them to .vssx and they still get #2200 error
Attached are some screen shots that may help?
This is the web link for the original shapes from Cisco.com

Why are you opening stencils like that? That is not the normal/correct way to do so. Use the More Shapes entry on the stencil area.

Yes  I know that is how I do it when I get the internal error #2200 going to More Shapes. If you look at the first set of screen shots on the post you will see how I use Visio Professional 2013 and when I get the error #2200.  Please note that only certain shapes get the error, none of the Microsoft shapes are doing this, only a portion of the ones that I have downloaded like from Cisco.com
Someone on the post suggested I do that to convert the shapes to vccx to see if they would work with the normal way of going to More Shapes like you mentioned.  After converting them they still do not work.

I was able to drop shapes from this stencil into a blank drawing.

I'm running Visio 2013 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit.

I am using the 32 bit Visio Professional 2013.  The first 20 days everything worked fine.  But since then about half o the shapes I have downloaded get the internal #2200 error.

Does anyone know why some shapes work but other will not work.  I have tried many different shape downloads but in each shape sets there are about half that will not go onto a drawing but get the Internal Error #2200 when I try to load the shape into my drawing. In trying to do any work it is a waste time when I can't load the proper shapes into my Network Diagrams.  When I need a specific shape nothing else can replace it. Needless to say if no one can figure this out I sure won't be buying Visio 2013 Professional when my trial copy expires!!!
Thanks for any ideas.

Open a stencil (one of the standard stencils) and give us a list of which shapes work and which ones don't. Thay way we can see if there is anything in common that might cause a problem.

Do this with an open document and open the stencils from the More Shapes menu. Drop each shape in turn onto the drawing.

Update: I now have another user who is suffering from this problem. If the stencil name begins with P or lower the stencil opens fine, R or higher generates the error.
Any ideas?

That is interesting!  I have removed my trial copy of Visio 2013 Professional and gave up on it.
I do hope that you can determine what is happening with the stencils.
Thanks,
Jim

I too am experiencing the same error. Here is my work around. Open the stencil file (vss or vssx) by a double click of the file via Explorer. The stencil will open in another session of Visio. Open your working drawing in another session of Visio. Now you can drag objects from the stencil only screen to the working drawing. You can also drag them into your "Favorites" of the working drawing and they will save.
Something of a pain to open two sessions, but it works. Recommend using dual monitors if you have the option.

Thanks for the response.  That does seem like a lot of trouble to make it work.  Did this error start when you first started using Visio 2013 Professional or develop after several weeks or months of using it?  The first month or so everything worked perfect with my system and then all of the sudden it started kicking up the error.

What works for me is to go: More Shapes | Open Stencil (at bottom of panel) | it brings up an Open Stencil screen and I navigate to My Stencils and select the one(s) I want (you can use Ctrl to select multiple)

I've now got another customer with the same problem.  Custom installed stencils with initial letter > P give this error. This is with stencils installed with a .msi installer and the Visio Solution Publishing Tool.
Is there anyone else who has Visio 2013 who would care to download my sampler from, say:
http://www.paulherber.co.uk/visio-electronics/
and see if all seven stencils load correctly?
Thanks.
