I have years of research wherein I have used the '#' in file and folder names. (All my other research applications will treat this without an issue!) Anyway, I can't get a Visio hyperlink to open a file with this in the name.
Any suggestions & I certainly hope there is!!!
THANKS!
Kent
I think the problem might that within a hyperlink a # has special meaning. Can't check at the moment.
Thanks Paul & appreciate it! Microsoft's 'OneNote' will open a file named like this & as I've said, all my other applications will. When you get a chance.
Paul or ANYONE, if this is in fact a Visio issue per 'hyperlinks & #' THEN can someone think of a somewhat simple remedy? = HOW DO you get Visio to open a file with a '#' in the name?
I've just tried it, # works as a tag within the required destination, so
C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\#hhhh\a.txt
will open folder C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\
and try show hhhh as a destination. That's how hyperlinks work. It's not just a file, it is a hyperlink. Visio can open files containing a #, but a # in a hyperlink has special meaning.

A shame they don't include Visio or Office 2013 in the list of affected software!
REMEDY, I think! and thanks guys for the help & suggestions.
I can open a file with a '#' BUT I have to be careful how I do this. For instance,
if:
-- I hover over the center of the icon and a 'hyperlink-symbol' is showing
THEN it opens a folder to the level where it first encounters the "#'
--I hover on the edges of the file icon and a 'cross-arrow' appears
THEN it opens the actual file
And this is what I want and is grand!!!!!!! (Like I've said, I've got 15 years worth of files with the "#" in the file name.)
Thanks again,
Kent
FOLLOW-UP on my previous comment per the remedy
What logic does it make for this to work with the cross-arrows that USUALLY means 'move shape'?
I actually ran upon this by accident = I got it to open a file but didn't realize what I had actually done. So I kept clicking on or AROUND the shape until finally I saw that if the 'cross-arrows' were active THEN it would open the file.
HA!
