Hi all

I'm not a expert in visio and need help.  I have inserted a image from file into visio and would like to attach a data graphic.  Every time i do this the data graphic does not display, however when i select a server shape and attach the same data graphic it display the relelvent infomation.  Can anyone tell me how i can diplay the data graphic on a image please.

Thank you

Paul Herber

It doesn't appear to work correctly, I don't know much about the data graphics personally, I don't have any use for it, but I've just done a few tests to see what happens with what you describe.
If the image has no custom properties (shape data) then a dialog gets shown asking what data you want to display, but nothing you can select seems to stick. However, a cell User.visDGDisplayFormat does get set so something has happened.

If the image does have some custom properties already then clicking a data graphic choice seems to do nothing at all.

Looks like a bug to me.

i have just found this link http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31301518/link-to-data-source-with.aspx
which quotes 'Shape Data in Visio does not support BLOBs or OLE objects(pictures) to my knowledge,'  would someone else be able to confim this or is a bug?

thanks

Well, that came from "Aaron Rykhus, MCP, MCDST, Online Support Engineer, Microsoft Corporation", probably as close to the horse's mouth as you are likely to get.

There's an easy way round this though, add a small shape of any kind, place it under your image and group the two. Now apply the data graphics. The data will apply to the groped shape rather than the image itself.
