Title: Artists Corner - Show Off Your Visio Right Brain
Post by: Visio Guy on March 27, 2009, 10:55:55 AM
In between Network Diagrams and Business Process Management flowcharts, some Visio fans can't resist trying to create beautiful graphics.

Share your masterpieces in this thread and inspire others!

Back in June of 2008, I was watching Austrian TV and they announced that a new channel was coming soon: Puls 4 (http://www.puls4.com/).

It had this cool, but simple graphic that I just had to sketch up...

Hit F5 to get into full-screen mode and watch the throbbing illusion.

What started out as a doodle, ended up being a project that involved using the techniques shown in Saveen's video, Expressive Diagrams with Visio 2007 (2009-03-22), http://vimeo.com/3813486, and also Visio Guy's off-center radial fill, http://www.visguy.com/2007/08/30/off-center-radial-fill-effect/.

The Visio file has two shapes that employ these techniques.  The first is shown here, the 2nd is an isometric cube.  Also, the background utilizes gradient fills and transparency effects applied to both the main and shadow fills.

This may be a little more fanciful than a normal Visio application, but I hope it demonstrates what can be achieved with Visio.

I am lucky if it is a kind of art.

How to enjoy.

Change Theme Color or Theme Effect.

The shapes on the page-1 need to right click on the page.
The Page-2 is automatic.

Which do you like?

And this drawing is using VBA macro.

And this is based on the jamtart's creating a gear type shape

Fruit Stripe circles (remember the gum with the multi-colored zebra?)

One of these days I might share the shapes too...

I don't know what it is but it's not an isometric, you will be pleased to know.

Here is my version (first draft) of the Illustrator diamond flower (http://veerle.duoh.com/blog/comments/illustrator_diamond_flower/ (http://veerle.duoh.com/blog/comments/illustrator_diamond_flower/)) by Veerle Pieters in Visio.

Saveen Reddy was doing some similar work:

I had been tinkering with the ArcArray macro, but, looking at Joe's and Visio Guy's latest posts, I decided that it was time for an upgrade.  For those unfamiliar with the ArcArray macro, see Circle up the wagons, the arc is here! (http://visguy.com/vgforum/index.php?board=14.0).

Anyway, it will now create a rainbow array of shapes similar to the above mentioned posts.  You can still run it as before, it just has another option to do the rainbow coloring.  I apologize for not being overly rigorous with the code, consequently, it works fine if the number of shapes chosen divides evenly into 360, like 18, used for the example below.

This was created by drawing two circles, then shape > operations > intersect. (Of course all of this was done using duplicates, so the steps could be seen.)  Select the resulting shape, then run the macro.  Answer no to 1st question to get a circle.  I used 18 for the number of shapes, 0.4 for the spacing which is slightly less than 1/2 of the height which allows overlap.  Said no to number the objects, and yes to the the rainbow question.  The macro sets the fill to 50%, and turns off the lines.

There is no limit to the configuration of the shape, and I've not explored the practical limit of the number of shapes.  Obviously, less than 3 will be quite boring.  It should be possible to do this with an arc rather than a full circle, I just didin't verify it.

Enjoy!

This is dedicated to Visio Guy -- after all, he started this thread, and the rest of us are just screwing around!   ;D

Some work I'm doing for another site required some threads as well. (The screw theme is a spin-off of the Side view of screw (http://visguy.com/vgforum/index.php?topic=1380.msg5900;topicseen#msg5900) thread)

Yes, that's a Visio drawing.

Double-click on the shape changes color.

Enable VBA macro, and enjoy.  :) ;) :) :D ;D :)

Yacine's text art reminds me of a Visio Guy article that I began to work on, but is still sitting in the draft folder.

This Matrix rendition was intended to be some sort of fancy background, but is really more a study in using randomness  (http://www.visguy.com/tag/random/)in the ShapeSheet to create interesting effects.

Mis-posted this a bit ago, sorry...

A composed camera lens I did using Visio 2000 a few years ago when I lacked a digital camera.

Friday afternoon and all my proper work cleared up for the week so I started to doodle and ended up with an aircraft carrier.
Very much a 'work in progress' as the mood takes me and the workload allows.  The drawing is over one meg so I've attached a pdf instead.
