Line ends (assymetrical)
Hello

I'm using Visio since many years, but have never really learned the concept of custom line ends.
Now I have tried some hours, but my understanding is still insufficient..

I want to do, is a "half arrow", meaning the "Visio standard arrow #04", but cut in half.
No matter how I try, I never get it properly

See attached picture.

Thanks for any hints/advice

i create my own line ends pattern (at upper part of my screenshot), but it apply like as (lower part)

thanks,  :)
but where do you place it within the stencil?
With me, it never "attach" correctl to the line (see picture)

you dont
Assuming you created this as a line, its in the drop down for line ends

I assume you're relatively new to Visio.  Be that as it may, as the old proverb goes, "There's more than one way to..."

Anyway, I think I may have thrown together a shape that accomplishes what you're after.  By right-clicking on the shape, you can "adjust" the type of arrow on either or both ends of the line.  Give it a try...

Edit:  BTW, I've set the "Fill" Color to be the same as the Line Color...

Edit #2:  I've added a second shape that uses a different approach, and has more options.

There are no problems, only opportunities

Sorry for late answer.
Thank you, this is was what I would like to acheive. :)

Why did you choose to do it this way and not as a Line End?

Sorry for my late answer.
My question was unfortunately not clear:
What I meant with "Stencil":
Drawing Explorer -> Line Ends -> MyNewLineEnd (Rightclick) ->Edit Pattern Shape
Now a Window called "MyFileName.vsdx:Stencil:MyNewLineEnd" opens.

So my question was :
where shall I put the "pattern" in this window (the "stencil"), so that it looks like the example of surrogate?

No matter what I do, it never come out right. Either a gap somewhere, or it looks just ugly.

Which pin position for line end pattern do you use ?

In the example below, I've centered the Triangle in the "stencil".
The Line End is also "scaled", but does not resize when the Line Width is changed.

I've tried different, Top-Center, Left-Bottom..no one really gives a "nice" result

My steps are:

  • I draw triangle into Line End Pattern window
  • Select triangle and press keywords Ctrl+G, for make group shape !!!
  • Select group shape and set pin as Right-Bottom
  • Close Line End Pattern window with save changes!

As I said, "there is more than one way to skin a cat."  Since the specific type of line end you originally wanted wasn't available, I chose to create a shape that gives you the flexibility of specifying the apparent line thickness, along with a great deal of flexibility as to the line ends.  Moreover, the size and shape of the line "ends" remain the same if you need to shorten or lengthen the line, unlike what can happen with "grouped" shapes.  AND, it's easy to add it to a stencil for future use!

Just an approach to a problem...

Thanks. How do you handle the diffrent scalings of Small, Medium, Jumbo etc?
Depending on where I place the triangle (grouped), the outcome is always different...

Your solution is indeed pretty, thanks!
