Visio re-orders shapes within stencil
« on: March 23, 2021, 08:32:28 AM »
Hi all, another Visio annoyance. This is something that I noticed quite some time ago but only just got around to looking into because of a customer comment.
Create a new stencil, add a shape to the stencil, name it "1", repeat several times and name them 2, 3, 4 etc.
Save stencil.
Now change the stencil view, to Icons Only, and try other views as well, you will find the shapes are no longer in the order 1, 2, 3, 4. Also happens when the width of the stencil window is changed.
When you want all the shapes in a certain order this is very annoying.
There is a fix but it doesn't stop the problem happening, you need to open the Registry Editor and find the Visio section and look in the Quick Shapes section. You can then find your stencil and delete its entry.
Example stencil attached.
(Yes, I've had a customer complain that the shapes are not in alphabetical order, and so would I!)
