Next Problem:
VSSX and VSTX files are not registered.
The same as VSS and VST are.

Maybe you need to name your files <name>_m.vssx and <name>_u.vssx (I belive that's a new feature of Visio 2013 and above, regarding metric and imperial measurement system)

You're right, template had to be renamed to <name>_m.vssx
Stencil name was correct already. I think the problem there was a naming conflict with another stencil, visible via Options -> Advanced -> File Locations -> stencil path.
Now it works, thanks.

We struggled with this, when the first colleagues updated to Visio 2013 
This was one (and not the only) reason why we stayed with Visio 2010 for many years.
