Removing snap on lines in shapes?

Forgive my newbness, I'm just starting with Visio.

Example: create a circle and manually add connection points at the sides, top, and bottom of circle. When using a connector it still doesn't snap to those added points along the line of the circle. It does snap to the line of the circle itself, but not specifically to the added connection points. Is there a way to make it so the connector won't snap to the circle itself, but will snap to the connection points on the circle?
