visPropTypeDate fields and conversion. Need some help.

I'm trying to wrap my head around using the field type visPropTypeDate.

Enabling this provides a nice Calendar function in the Shape Data I would like to use. On the development side this is proving to be slightly nightmarish.

If I select a date in the Shape data say, 12/20/2018, the shape sheet shows me   =DATETIME(43454)

Initially I thought 43454 was a Julian format but I'm not so sure it is anymore. At least no formatter I have found can properly convert this value.

Does anyone know how to convert this value or understand how to best manipulate these values?

If you use the shapesheet editor and put the value = 0 you will see what the number is based on!
