I am a Network Engineer and regularly use Visio for network diagrams.

What I am trying to figure out, is it possible to have visio open up an application (PuTTy, SecureCRT, etc.) and connect to that device? (You can save filters in those applications to connect to which device but you have to open it, click it, then connect. I am trying to just click on the device in visio and have it open up the application and be connected.)  I know how to make links in visio to open up web pages or a different tab in visio, etc. but I am not even sure if this is possible. If it is, it would be MUCH appreciated for some insight.

Thanks!

Hi, this is one of the solutions:

Note that this approach (custom application protocol registration) will work without any extensions as well, both from Visio and web page.

I believe you can do the same with Visio Online / Visio Visual as well ("application protocol" approach is a generic solution)
