I would like to create an organization chart (and other flow charts) in Visio, but then export to Excel so that others can edit as needed.  This question is 2-part.  First option would be to export to Excel with no intentions of keeping the Visio version updated -- is this possible?  If so, what are the downsides to doing so?  If first question is possible, is there a way to import the edited Excel chart back to Visio?

Thanks much for the support.  In the past, I used Visio for flow charting and pasted the charts into documents as pictures.  I know have a new job with a new company and have different needs.  I do not yet have Visio so I can't experiment.  These answer will help make the decision to purchase or not.

Why do you want to export to Excel?

But, to answer the 1st question:  there are two direct ways...
    1)  from Visio, do copy all.  Then in Excel, do a Paste Special.
    2)  from Excel, do Insert > Object > Visio drawing.  Then do a paste into the drawing area.  You will have to re-size the Visio drawing.  Easiest way is to select all <cntl>+A, then group, the Format > protection and protect aspect ratio.  Change and move drawing as desired.  When happy ungroup.  Then click out of Visio.

Either method will allow you to edit the drawing via a double click.

If you're interested in the other direction, importing from Excel, check these links:  (Actually, they go both directions, but only data, not Vision drawings)
