keeping symmetry

I have found a stencil I like but I want to change it. Right now it looks like the long line in the attachment. I can drag one end and it keeps the points in between the same distance no matter how long I make it. Now, I want to change it so it will look like the bottom line which is a thicker line, but want to be able to extend and keep the symmetry like the top line. How do I do this? Thanks, David

The "white vinyl fence" is a grouped shape. 

Created a 3rd shape, based upon the WVF shape to preserve inherent functionality, but added following features:
1)  New shape property to allow user to set size of the posts.
2)  Post size controls the "thickness" of the fence.
3)  Double click the shape brings up the data window.
4)  Drop shape on page brings up the data window.
