Process Metrics

I am interested in capturing process metrics across multiple swimplane diagrams.  Are there any templates or best practices.  E.g. Volume throughput, elapsed time duration etc.  Ideally I would like to explore system dynamics of stock and flow ...have google around but nothing seems to jump out.

Assuming that the data will reside in another file format than Visio, I think you'll not be happy with Visio's graphing capabilities.
The simplest diagrams could be done with excel. You may also look at math software (mathCAD and co.), or for elaborate diagramming with external computation D3.js.
