Aligning shape connection points

Beginning Visio user. Created a shape, saved in stencil favorites. The orange guideline (if that is what it is called) that appears when placing shape is not in line with the shape's connection point. Is there a way to create my shape so it will align with other connection points when placed? Thank you.
