Items are numbered when pasted or grouped

Hi I hope you can help as this is driving me nuts. I have a floor plan that when I paste, group or draw a new shape, it puts a number on it. I'm sure I've hit a setting somewhere accidentally but it's driving me crazy. I can remove the number on the item by choosing the text tool when I have the items selected and deleting, but I have to do this every time.

Anyone able to help me? Pleeeeease...

This is controlled by the Number Shapes addon, normally invoked from the menu (in Visio 2010) View -> Addons -> Visio Extras.
Here is an easy way to turn it off. Right-click on the page background and you will see a menu entry for adding shape numbers, just ensure that is off. To remove it completely, on the Developer tab -> Show Shapesheet (Page), scroll down to the Actions section and delete the row with the above menu entry.
