I have defined some shape data to standard workflow shapes like Process boxes, decision boxes etc but Im not sure how to make that data visible on the shape itself.

When a user drags the shape onto the page, I would ideally want the user to be prompted to enter all the data.

Can I then format the data (bold, align left etc) ?

Any help would be appreciated.

You can have Visio prompt the user to enter data when a shape is dropped. Just add a check mark to the "Ask on Drop" field when you're defining shape data attributes (it's an easy option to miss -- it's located about 2/3 of the way down the left side of the Define Shape Data dialog).

As far as displaying the shape data is concerned, if you want to display more than one data field for the shape, your best bet is Visio 2007 data graphics. If you haven't played with them yet, take a look at this demo
