How to delete Phase row in swimlane diagram?

I am in Visio 2010 and cannot delete the Phase row that Visio puts above the swimlanes in a swimlane flowchart.  I have turned off protection but still get the warning, "Shape protection, container, and/or layer properties prevent complete execution of this command" when I hit delete.  I've tried to look at containers and layers but can't see that any exist.  Any suggestions?
