Hi,

So, when you create an off-page reference in Visio, you should be able to double-click on that Off-page reference and it'll take you to that linked page or tab and vice versa.

However, sometimes, for some reason, when you double-click on a reference, it'll take you to the linked page and if you double-click the reference again, it doesn't seem to work. I'm using Visio 2010.

Two things may happen in this case:
-I will double click the reference and it takes me to the wrong page or
-I will double click the reference and nothing happens

Can anyone explain this or help me fix this issue?

Thanks

Paul Herber

Works fine here.
Can you post an example?

Sure, take a look at the attachment.

Notice how the Off-Page reference "To R2" seems to not do anything.

Even when I try to create new Off-Page references to link R1 and R2, I have issues.

Ugh,

Now that my thread has been moved now there's NO chance of me getting help in a timely manner.. :(

Why do you think your thread being moved into a more appropriate forum would change your chance of getting a reply?

I was just being a little facetious.  ;D  ;)

Did you look at the attachment? Any thoughts or help?

Oh, ok, I have looked at it, I can see the problem, but I have no idea at the moment what might be causing it.

Yikes... :(

It has to be something wrong with this "R2" page.

I can create new off-page references anywhere, between R1 and R3, between R1 and R4, or between R3 and R4. The references work perfectly.

But for some reason, even if I create a new page and call it "R2", if I try to make a reference that connects to R2, one of them just doesn't seem to function correctly.

For example: If I make a new page "Page-5" and within it I create an off-page reference for "R2", Visio won't even drop in a new off-page reference in "R2". Instead, inexplicably, it creates one in "R3" instead--as if "R2" doesn't even exist...  :-[  :-[

If I Right Click on the off-page reference and actually Click on "Off-Page Reference it goes to where it needs to go.  That seems to be the only consistency working, however, I have to be able to have these references to work via double-click.

Ok, found the problem, pages have attributes, Name and NameU, it's all to do with internationalisation. If pages get renamed then Name and NameU can get out of sync. Page R2 has Name=R2 and NameU=R3 and page R3 has Name=R3 and NameU=R2.
I'll have to leave this response here for a short while as I need to go out.

Thanks...Ok, so how do I fix this?

I'm a novice when it comes to the developer/programming side to Visio and so, I'm not sure how to understand the attributes and how I can work around them.

Ok, I'm back, here is the fixed diagram ...
The off-page reference code and the double-click code obviously use different shape attributes.
As I said previously pages R2 and R3 had their page Name and NameU out of sync, not in itself a problem but they were swapped over, R2 had its NameU=R3 and vice-versa.
What I did to fix this:
1. Rename page R2 to aR2
2. Rename page R3 to aR3
3. Used my Visio Utilities (http://www.sandrila.co.uk/visio-utilities/) menu VisioUtils -> Page -> Page Report
to tidy up the swapped names
4. Rename R2 and R3 back to their original names and run the page report again.
Now your links work correctly.
