Sorry, after 2 hours the import was still going. I need to do other stuff. Maybe someone else can help. I'm away for the weekend.

Just a thought.
What's the meaning of having a 7000 items org chart?
No one can read it (nor handle it, as the previous conversation shows).
I know, you certainly have your reasons for doing this, but one could consider splitting the 7000 monster in smaller bites.
--> Categories, or at least part 1, 2 and so on.
If even more you could consider using a interactive document, the reader could navigate it.

Just some thoughts.
Cheers, Yacine.

I ran the wizard with the Excel file again and it ran for 8 hours without finishing, the last text on the dialog box was "arranging shapes on page 38 ...", with 1GB of memory used, and not responding.

I have to agree with Yacine. I see these requests frequently, and I'm not sure what people really do with them.

I am aware that people print out monstrous org charts on huge pieces of paper, then hang them on the wall for meetings. But even then, 500 shapes is a lot to digest. I would imagine, at some point a manager is free to "fire the interns!" and they don't need to be discussed, nor drawn :)
