I have an ever evolving diagram consisting of several hundred shapes and connectors. This is to document a production process that will change fairly often...meaning I will be adding/subtracting/moving existing elements frequently.

The automatic connector routing is creating a tangled mess with connectors going behind shapes, crisscrossing, weaving between shapes, and other nonsense. Are there any techniques I can use to control the routing algorithm? I would specifically like to accomplish these three things:

1) Define where connectors can/can't go
2) "encourage" connectors to follow predetermined "conduits" from one part of the page to another
3) seperate parallel connectors by a few millimeters

Thanks for any ideas!

for 1) and 2) you may have a look at the enclosed drawing. It includes background shapes, that are set up be routed around (beahivour/routing). In your drawing you will of course set them plain white, so they are invisible.
for 3) under shapes/layout set the spacing to the desired value.
