I have identical versions of Visio 2003 Pro installed on different machines, with different operating systems. The "Zoom In" ability of the two machines differs significantly, when rendering the same drawing with identical page settings. Is the performance difference hardware or software related? Is it 32bit vs 64bit related, XP vs W7 related or Hardware?

Work PC Specs (Poor Zoom)
Intel DH61WW
i3-3220 @ 3.3Ghz
4GB Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz Single Channel
nVidia GT630 2GB DDR3
Samsung Syncmaster B1930N LCD 1366 x 768
Windows XP 32bit

Home PC Specs (Very Good Zoom)
Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen 3
i5-2500k @ 4.3Ghz
8GB G-Skills F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM (4 x 2GB)
nVidia GTX660
Philips 191EL1SB LED 1366 x 768
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I know it's like comparing apples and oranges, but hopefully some members can shed some light on this for me.....

Visio performance is very much hardware related, faster the CPU the faster Visio is. As Visio is single threaded it is pure processor speed, extra CPU/cores make no difference apart from maybe a bit more cache.

Thanks for the info AndyW. I plan to install the program on my son's PC and compare all three. His PC specs are;

ECS H55h-M
i3-540 @ overclocked to 3.4Ghz
8GB G-Skills 1600Mhz ( 4GB x 2)
ATI HD 5770 2GB
Philips 191EL1SB LED 1366 x 768
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

This will be an interesting comparison. I will post the results soon....

Max Zoom = (32767 / (Page size in inches * Screen pixels per inch)) * 100%

32767/(29.7/2.54*145)*100% = 1932%  (I got 2013% close enough)

of course taking into account that between xp and vista the rendering engine in the OS changed from 72dpi to 96dpi.
