Visio 2007 & 2010 Report Wizard Excel Output

I can't seem to get the report wizard to write currency data in an Excel report as currency and not text.  This happens even if the currency data is summarized and formatted in the wizard.  Am I missing something?  I was hoping to avoid writing code or changing the shape data attribute to number (in the masters and the drawing) and then re-creating data recordsets with reformatted data.   Is the currency to text a feature of the report wizard?
