If I want to edit a shape to resize them this is the process I do:
I create a new custom stencil.
I went to More Shapes, Software and Database, Web and Media Icons (Metric)
I right-click on the shape and send it to my new custom stencil.
I close the standard stencil.
I edit the new custom stencil.
I then edit master, edit master shape
--Most of the time the item appears in the edit window as expected.   For some of the symbols  they appear blank in the edit shape window.   This includes:  Play, Video, Music, Internet and Link.

Can you duplicate this?

How can I get this going?

Is there a work-around for this?

Thank-You !

I found a work-around to this problem - may not be suitable for all - but for me it worked fine.

When I have the Edit Master Shape dialogue on the screen,
I click the View Tab, Task Panes, Size and Position
I then do a CTRL A to select all
I then use the Size and Position and change the width or the height of the item to what I want it to be.    The item is not visible at all - but I can change it - and then I close the window and save as I normally would.

the sheet is "blank" because the shape is positioned beyond the normal scrolling area for the master page.  I'm guessing that Visio retained its position from the location from which it was originally dragged.   You can see the shape if you highlight it as you mentioned, using Ctrl-A, then viewing the location parameters in the shape data and resetting X and Y positions to zero.
