exporting visio to Excel

Hi all,

How do I export a visio drawing to Excel?  I don't need the file to be linked or editable, just in excel so that I can manipulate numbers around the drawing - Tried saving as a WMF/EMF file, but that seems to do the same as copy and paste in that the visio object then does not allow you to use excel by selecting individual cells with your mouse under the drawing - also tried setting the visio drawing as background in excel, but then it will not print the drawing

Start Excel, save a new, blank document with a suitable name.

Visio menu Tools -> Add-ons -> Visio Extras -> Database Export Wizard
Choose the page(s), shapes etc, then choose Excel as the export type -> Next,
Choose the filename created above.
Set the Table name to something, say, 'zzz', this will create an Excel page called 'zzz'.

P.S. If you don't create the blank file first then you will just get a 'File not Found' error if you just enter a file name and expect Visio to create it for you. This is, of course, as obvious as a totally non-obvious thing and is not mentioned at all in the help file.

So basicly, you want the shape created in Visio to serve as a background in Excel? No more?

Cant you export the Visio document as a JPG and set it as "behind the text" in Excel

Hi Rog, I just happened to see this post here....

If you don't need to make any changes or include any attachments/materials in your file, then you may try a new way: import your visio file into some other free download or online diagramming tools like Edraw Max or Lucidchart, then export to Excel.

I have tried setting a drawing as a background in Excel, so you can have a try for the Edraw Max or Lucidchart. Or anyone else has suggestions? thanks
