Forum Search Improvement

the search box on this forum is rather limited in comparison to other forums.  can't seem to search for username entries for example.  it also returns nothing even with simple searches where know the text exists in several forum posts  (e.g. "glueing 2d")

Anybody know how to link Google or something better into SMF? I don't have tons of time to work on this forum, so anybody that knows anything about SMF: I'd love to hear concrete tips on what can be done!
