Background not showing

I have Visio pro and until today when I opened a new page and set a background, VBackground appeared next to the page. Today I am unable to set a background, what has changed and how do I get it back

You have to create a background page in the document first.

I click on the design tab, click on the background, select a background and the page itself takes on the background effect with no background showing on the bottom page tabs.
This has only just started, previously all was well with the application

Are you able to create new background pages?
Can you see the background page selection in the page setup?

Hi Paul
Thank you for your interest in my post.  I can see the background option in the Page setup> Page Properties, but when I select background I am informed no background exists, even though I have selected a background, on the Design (background) tab the application worked fine until last week, mystified as to what has changed. I have run a program repair but this has not rectified the problem. I am considering reinstalling as my next move.
