Convert Excel Data Into Visio Shapes

I just watched a video from the Microsoft 2010 MVP conference where Mr. Roth described a solution for a shipping company using Excel data to create shapes.  I am looking to do the same thing except using the data to create vectors. He indicated (I could be wrong) that in the more recent editions of Visio this could be done simply.  In short, how?

If this has been answered before, please point me in the right direction.
